The Executive Office of the Arab Housing and Construction Ministers Council, during its 89th session held today, Wednesday, announced the winning projects for the “Completed Housing Project” award for 2024, which includes Egypt’s “Rawdat Al-Sayyeda” project. The project was praised for its significant urban development and its positive impact on residents’ lives.

Previously known as the “Tell Al-Aqrab” area, the project aims to transform an informal settlement with poor infrastructure into a modern urban community providing adequate housing. Officially inaugurated in October 2021, the project includes approximately 816 residential units and 198 commercial shops.

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, praised the “Rawdat Al-Sayyeda” project for winning this award, extending congratulations and appreciation to Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, who initiated and followed the project during his tenure as Minister of Housing. He also congratulated all those involved, including the Central Agency for Reconstruction, the Ministry of Housing, Cairo Governorate, and the Urban Development Fund, as well as everyone who contributed to the project’s execution.

The minister stated that the project aims to create a suitable architectural and urban environment while maintaining a distinctive architectural style that respects local cultural and historical heritage. It also seeks to balance the provision of services at an appropriate quality and density to ensure full community benefit, enhancing the project’s importance as a vital element in improving the quality of life.

The Egyptian government continues its efforts to develop existing urban areas and informal settlements by providing various essential services such as schools, health centers, and recreational areas, in addition to creating job opportunities, which contribute to improving the economic situation and raising the living standards of citizens.

This award serves as recognition and confirmation of the ongoing efforts of Arab countries in the field of housing and sustainable urban development. It is awarded to the best integrated housing project that meets the objectives of the award and has been implemented in an Arab country.

The award aims to encourage a spirit of competition and creativity among Arab architects, engineers, and technicians in deriving practical solutions from their architectural and engineering heritage.

The awards are set to be presented during the 8th Arab Housing Conference, held alongside the 41st session of the Arab Housing and Construction Ministers Council, scheduled to take place in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria next December.
